Auroras, also known as the Northern Lights, are colorful light displays in the sky caused by charged particles from the Sun interacting with Earth's magnetic field. They are often visible near the polar regions.
AuroraNow monitors solar wind data such as the Bz component, Bt strength, wind speed, temperature, and density. When these values indicate increased geomagnetic activity, the app will notify you if the conditions meet your selected preferences.
Auroras are most likely to appear when the solar wind speed is high, the Bz value is negative, and the Kp index is elevated. The app continuously monitors these factors and alerts you when the chances of seeing an aurora are higher.
Auroras are concentrated near the poles because the Earth's magnetic field channels solar wind particles towards the magnetic poles, where they collide with the atmosphere and create the glowing lights.
To send notifications, we store your Notification Token and the aurora conditions you selected. No personal information is collected or linked to your identity.
Yes and no. You can disable notifications in the app settings, but we still store your preferences and the token for 90 days.
